Hotel Brufani Palace makes for a pleasant stop when you're touring the Umbria region - be forewarned, however, that you may not want to leave' There's much to see and do in the region, including Assisi for its Basilica of St. Francis, Spoleto for its music festival and Orvieto for its wines. I love the indoor swimming pool; there are medieval vaulted ceilings above you, and under the glass bottom, you'll see 2,000-year-old Etruscan ruins. The best spot for a romantic dinner for two is Collins, known for its fine local cuisine and, of course, its selection of refined wines.

The new Brufani Palace - stemming from the fusion of the famous Brufani with the wing of the adjacent nineteenth-Century building, has re-conquered its age-old splendor. Located within the historical center of Perugia, in a maze of perfectly preserved medieval churches, streets, alleys and stairways. The panorama from inside the hotel is just as fascinating. Every detail conveys a feeling of harmony and beauty.

The hotel has 59 rooms and 35 suites. Each room is individually decorated and elegantly appointed with authentic antique furniture and carpets, gilt framed mirrors and crystal chandeliers, silk covered walls, ample wardrobes, fine fabrics and crisp Italian linen. Room amenities include the most modern comforts, like individually controlled air-conditioning, in-room safes, bathrobe and slippers, fully stocked minibar, modem data port and direct dial phones, radio and satellite/cable television. All suites feature fax machine and video cassette player. Most of the bathrooms offer panoramic views and have separate tub and shower and double sinks; all the suites have jacuzzi or whirlpools. Most rooms and suites have either balconies or terraces overlooking the green valley of Umbria or the domes and roofs of the historical city center.

The English style bar is inviting and cozy and the "Collins" restaurant, with its outdoor terrace, is an impeccable setting to fully savour the regional cuisine with the typical truffle specialties and excellent wines from a well stocked wine cellar.

The "SINA Wellness Club" is located within an archaeological site and features an indoor swimming pool with transparent bottom, through which one can gaze at Etruscan findings underneath while swimming, sauna, steam bath and gym. Golf players appreciate the echoes of the past while playing on the 27-hole spectacular golf complex of the Antognolla Golf Club, designed by Robert Trent Jones II or Santa Sabina Golf Club, both about 10 minutes from the hotel.
