In October 1910 Spain’s King Alfonso XIII presided over a sumptuous gala ceremony to inaugurate the Hotel Ritz Madrid. This great occasion was the realisation of his dream to establish a grand hotel in his capital city. A century later, this dream lives on. The hotel was created by César Ritz, the genius behind the three ‘city palaces’ that still bear his name in Paris, London and Madrid. To mark 100 years of unsurpassed hospitality and style, a year of Centenary Celebrations was inaugurated in October 2010 and will continue until October 2011.
