Michelangelo designed Villa San Michele as a 15th-century Franciscan monastery on Fiesole Hill above Florence. The "Last Supper" fresco survives in what is now the Cenacolo Bar, under the diligent care of its present owners, Orient-Express Hotels. We celebrated our recent anniversary at Villa San Michele, a 15th-century monastery nestled among cypress and olive trees, part of the Orient-Express Hotels, Trains Cruises collection and a feast for the eyes. A couple suites here are built info the hillside, each perfectly appointed with a private patio for sunning and enjoying evening cocktails. Our favorite dining spot was the Loggia Terrace restaurant, overlooking Florence and the Arno Valley (inside, check out "The Last Supper" fresco on the ceiling). My husband hiked the on-property nature trails while I enjoyed a dip in the heated swimming pool. |
