Michelangelo designed Villa San Michele as a 15th-century Franciscan monastery on Fiesole Hill above Florence. The "Last Supper" fresco survives in what is now the Cenacolo Bar, under the diligent care of its present owners, Orient-Express Hotels. We celebrated our recent anniversary at Villa San Michele, a 15th-century monastery nestled among cypress and olive trees, part of the Orient-Express Hotels, Trains Cruises collection and a feast for the eyes. A couple suites here are built info the hillside, each perfectly appointed with a private patio for sunning and enjoying evening cocktails. Our favorite dining spot was the Loggia Terrace restaurant, overlooking Florence and the Arno Valley (inside, check out "The Last Supper" fresco on the ceiling). My husband hiked the on-property nature trails while I enjoyed a dip in the heated swimming pool.

Formerly a 15th Century Franciscan Monastery, the Villa San Michele is surrounded by its own gardens and woodland with magnificent views over Florence and the Arno Valley. The bedrooms and suites are simple, peaceful and elegant while the Renaissance splendor of Florence is a mere 10 minutes away by car. Situated 50 miles from Pisa International Airport and 6 miles from Florence Peretola Domestic Airport. Complimentary shuttle service provided to and from Florence city center. 22 double rooms,11 junior suites & 4 suites. The Loggia Terrace Restaurant provides a unique dining venue - overlooking Florence and the Arno Valley. The indoor dining room is used in cooler weather. 82-feet heated pool with spectacular views of Florence is open late Spring to early Autumn.
