For a recent milestone birthday, I treated my wife to a week at the five-star Bauer Hotel in romantic Venice. The hotel, a longtime favorite of local artists and royalty, is just a five-minute walk from St. Mark's Square and some of the city's most elegant shops. Guests may take advantage of the hotel's own water dock off the Grand Canal, which makes for convenient gondola trips. Inside, we dined heartily at De Pisis - our favorite table was outdoors on the terrace overlooking the canal. Stop by the B-Bar for a dramatic view of the Chiesa della Salute and a menu of original cocktails.
