A vacation at Palazzo Seneca in Umbria is much more than a hotel stay — you’ll be cosseted in a 16th-century palace that has been under the loving care of the Bianconi family since 1850. Skillfully restored by local artisans, this stately home welcomes you with 24 individually appointed rooms; farm-to-table cuisine utilizes fresh herbs from the garden and pecorino cheese aged in the cellar. A house in an Umbrian palace: this is the atmosphere you live in in this charming residence of the sixteenth century, that re-opens its doors in Norcia, in the heart of Umbria, after a careful restoring. Fusion of design and tradition, simplicity and quality, this is the secret of this new elegant project promoted and realized by Vincenzo and Federico Bianconi, the last generation of a family who has been offering Hospitality and Foodservice since 1850. The skilled restoration, the research of unique materials and objects, along with the work of the best Umbrian craftsmen, have made Palazzo Seneca a unique destination in its genre. Please do not call us “hotel”.

Our family has handed down the passion for hospitality and foodservice from father to son. The Palazzo Seneca project represents the evolution of 150 years tradition, of our studies, experiences and researches carried out throughout Italy and worldwide. A house in an Umbrian Palace, this is not a slogan, it is rather a way of thinking, projecting, hosting, living this elegant residence of the sixteenth century. We have collected tradition, design, simplicity, genuine feeling and creativity in order to let you experience a new Umbrian tradition. We welcome you to make your stay with us memorable. Our rooms combine generosity and love for details. Materials, shapes and noble colours give each room and each suite a personal and exclusive charm . Tradition, in perfect harmony with environment and service, will satisfy all your expectations. In all our rooms an exclusive comfort is provided by the famous Italian-made “Simmons” mattresses, among the best in the world, with one-by-one paper wrapped up springs and an extra small mattress to provide the best comfort. The lamps have been produced by the same company that has provided the lighting of the San Remo festival for years, according to Architect A. Lerwill Bowen’s design. Some paintings have been realized on late 1800 jutes used by the local bakers to leaven bread after long and exciting research, others represent nonfigurative photos taken by a local artist, others belong to the Bianconi family’s collection and show Norcia’s history. In order to let you feel at home, you will be able to prepare yourselves the herb tea that better suits your taste in the privacy of your own room, using your own tea-pot.

Restaurant

The creation of this restaurant represents a gesture of love to our land. In this special environment, in harmony with nature and seasons, we wish to tell you a new gastronomic tradition of Norcia, made of taste, territory, research and innovation. To realize this project we have combined the character, the creativity and the skill of our chef Flavio Faedi, of his brigade, of Mauro Clementi, who welcomes the guests in the dining room, with our 150 years of family experience in foodservice.

Wellness

In the basement of the palace, a mystic silence wraps up the wellness rooms. Ceilings with barrel and groin vaults and old stone floors ideally frame the Sibilla room, where you can enjoy a massage, or the rest room, where you can sip a herb tea made with herbs from the Monti Sibillini National Park. The stone hydro-massage bath for 6 people in a private room is next to the Turkish bath and sauna. All these areas, along with other small rooms, represent a proposal for wellness suitable to this residence.

Comfortable nests that overlook the roofs of Norcia’s old town centre. Some are furnished with totally interlocking four-poster beds in wrought iron, as in the old times. Writing desks fully covered with leather realized by leather craftsmen from Marche. “Cardinal” style chairs, the same used in the Vatican, strictly produced in Umbria. Umbrian cotto and prestigious marbles in the bathrooms.

Intimacy is the added value of Palazzo Seneca. Some rooms are furnished with four-poster beds in wrought iron, as in the old times. Others are provided with wooden bed- heads sculptured by the skilled hands of Umbrian craftsmen who work on restorations in the centre of Italy. Writing desks fully covered with leather realized by leather craftsmen from Marche. “Cardinal” style chairs, the same used by the Cardinals during their meetings in the Vatican, strictly produced in Umbria.

Wide and fascinating, simply elegant. The hall next to the wardrobe reminiscence of ancient trunks, with leather-covered doors. Some are furnished with four-poster beds in wrought iron, as in the old times. Others are provided with writing desks completely covered with leather realized by leather craftsmen from Marche. “Cardinal” style chairs, the same used by Cardinals in the Vatican during their meetings, strictly produced in Umbria. Some others include writing desks dating back to 1500-1700 belonging to the Seneca family.

Junior Suite

An unforgettable experience. Some with four-poster beds in old wood, some with carved wood bed-heads, all sculptured with great ability by Umbrian craftsmen who co-operate with important restorations in the centre of Italy. Some suites have unique antique pieces, wardrobes and secretaires manufactured in 1500-1700, belonging to the Seneca family, that have been skilfully restored. The floors are of great elegance, realized in old oak, while in the bathrooms black granite (meteor) has been used.

The bed is made with wooden, twisted columns sculptured with undisputed skill by Umbrian craftsmen that will surely enchant you. The antique secretaire, belonging to the Seneca family, has been remarkably restored. Wooden floors made of ancient oak, while in the bathrooms elegant and precious black granite (meteor) has been used. Everything makes you think of a timeless ambience of unique elegance.
